Gift vouchers are also money 17 April, 2007

We received quite a bit of gift vouchers during our housewarming. Since we’re still in the process of equipping our house, these vouchers really comes in handy. There’s a good mix of vouchers from different vendors like NTUC, Harvery Norman, Robinsons, etc. Last weekend, we just spent our first NTUC to purchase some household stuff like soya sauce, salt and box tissue, and also our steamboat ingredients like fishball, udon and siew mai. So fun!

Next, we’ll be going to Robinson, hopefully to get some pots and pans and kitchenware from there. We didn’t want to spend these vouchers on clothes, but want to spend them on equipping the house instead. Next, we’ll probably go to Harvey Norman to get a washing machine and maybe an oven.

With all these intended spendings going thru our minds, it suddenly struck upon me that we should spend these voucher prudently. After all, voucher are as good as cash and we shouldn’t treat them like something that can be spendthrift about. That means we should spend it like how we would normally spend cash. Hmm… That would mean sourcing around for them best deal in town like we always would or waiting until a festive season when there tends to be more promotions going on, then spend our vouchers.

The only limitation to this is the expiry dates. Some vouchers expire in 6 months while some lasts 2 years. Takashimaya gives the best deal by having no expiry date. Well, at least I couldn’t find any expiry date on the voucher itself. Maybe I should drop by Taka one day and ask the customer service officer just to be sure. Anyway, reassure that we will spend the vouchers with care. And if u receive a gift voucher in kind from ur friends or relatives, be sure to spend it with care too.
